What Is The Chevron Design Pattern?

by Roy Akirov
November, 2015

Chevron design pattern is a popular pattern used in flooring design, where the wood blocks meet point to point, creating a continuous zigzag. It has recently been in its heyday in retail stores and on Pinterest. Used on curtains, bedding, clothes, or on accessories like bags, purses, jewellery, or even shoes, chevron has become very popular.

The Chevron design pattern has become a classic motif, used in many fields of life, while its historical origins are related to flooring. When visiting numerous older houses or apartments, where floors have over one hundred years, we’ll frequently encounter chevron or herringbone designs.

Those great old floors made of a hardwood may be inspiring to modern interior designers who want to slightly or completely transform a room or an entire house and attract the attention of visitors. This flooring installation method looks great and is durable, depending on the materials you’ll go for and the colors you’ll choose.

A home stylist has two basic options to choose from: the “herringbone” or the “chevron” design. The chevron pattern has boards that meet at mitred angles of 45 degrees, thus creating diagonal zigzags along one axis. The herringbone design is an arrangement of rectangles which resemble the bones of a fish. When looking at both patterns, you think of warmth, hygge and beautiful views.

An experienced certified flooring installer can easily create those patterns. Even though the cost may be slightly higher, the final result will for sure be very satisfactory. Check the links to selected wonderful rooms under the article that will inspire you! Chevron floor looks great, no matter what color scheme you’ll choose.

Go for light blond wood tones to get a fashionable look, or choose darker tones to get a slightly warmer texture. Go the whole way in your bathroom – get tiles installed in the chevron pattern or herringbone pattern and make a bold statement by getting different shades or colors. In a sitting room, subtle furnishings, neutral colors and whitewashed walls are commonplace.

However, if your room has a more minimalist or industrial feel, chevron flooring is a great way to make it look more beautiful and interesting. This will make it stand out and guarantee that it’ll be in line with future trends.

These classic patterns are also easy to install. To create a chevron pattern, you only need to cut your selected flooring material at an angle.

To get a herringbone design, cut the planks at a 45 degree angle and install them as you normally do! Ask an expert, and he will recommend you one of our preferred installation partners. If you have decided to get chevron and herringbone patterns in your home, you can get materials such as: hardwood, laminate, tile, or luxury vinyl planks!

If you want to get a pattern on your floor but you don’t want a permanent solution, you can choose a chevron patterned area rug and add some cushions, blankets, or curtains with this design. These glamour flooring patterns are something more than only a trend; they are a true fashion statement!
